Fake Lashes in Mascara Ad Campaigns

GermanyFalseLashesMany cosmetics companies have been known to use fake eyelashes on their models in mascara ad campaigns. Is this wrong? Is this cheating? Perhaps, it can be a bit misleading. Some customers may see an ad for the typical volume-building mascara and think “If I use this properly, my lashes will look like her’s” only to end up disappointed with the results. An educated consumer would recognize that mascara can do a great many things in the world of illusions, but all the hoping in the world won’t turn mascara into some magic elixir, which changes the genetics of lashes with the wave of a wand. Using false lashes on the model could be considered comparable to Photoshop-ing a picture before sending it out to print. Does the model really have flawless, entirely pore-free, perfect skin? Unlikely. Yet, we acknowledge these things as just another dimension in the world of advertising.

Cosmetic companies (i.e. Maybelline) have even gone as far as to create a mascara called “Falsies” intended to mimic false eyelashes! In reality, everyone knows that the only thing that looks like false eyelashes ARE FALSE EYELASHES. In the end, these clever names and “fixed” photos in marketing beauty products need not be criticized as lies or manipulation. Consumers should take responsibility for drawing their own conclusions based on reality. My conclusion: a great mascara is most effective when paired with a really good pair of false lashes, and that’s how I choose to wear mine!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mascara commercial or ad that did not have their models wear false eyelashes. If such a commercial or ad did exist, I think I would be tempted to buy their product just for their honesty in advertising. Anyone who knows such mascara, please share.

i think digitally-enhanced or different length false eyelashes inserts were intended to mislead consumers about the products achievable effects. if this is not the case, the ad should have obvious bold disclaimer on the bottom of the ad to inform the consumer. Accurate representation of mascara products is a must so the consumer can make an educated buying decision..

I have very short and sparse eyelashes and have bought every mascara available. As I am not blessed with longer lashes needed as a prerequisite for mascara, using false eyelashes is no doubt the only way to make my lashes look longer and fuller. They come in all different styles and densities. Once I got the hang of it, creating multiple eye looks is easy.

Most mascara companies claim it is standard industry practice. I guess the industry will need to change that because the consumers are catching on. I have read a few of these companies gave gotten lawsuit.

Well, I’m not a fan of mascara by choice. I’m a natural blonde with super fine hair. My natural lashes are short and there is no such thing as clump free mascara on baby fine lashes so I need false eyelashes to both thicken and give me the structure needed to apply mascara. Most stores only carry black or assume everyone wants the glam look. I just want a very natural looking style that can be worn everyday and for glam. Applying mascara on top of the false eyelashes works for me.

I used to be so jealous of all the models thinking that they were born with amazingly long lashes. Then I started wear fake eyelashes so I noticed that the lashes in the ads looked like falsies too. I actually feel better knowing that actresses and models have to wear false lashes to get that look and that it’s not just a little mascara. Funny though that the beauty companies would name their mascara ‘falsies’ and ‘false eyelashes’…haha…it used to be so taboo but I guess false lashes are cool now.

I tried the Falsies mascara. You have to have pretty long lashes to start with…I don’t have naturally long lashes so I’m back to my trusty fake lashes!

fake eyelashes are amazing and mascaara actually damages your lashes. falsies come in all shapes ans colors and u dont have to comprimise length for color or thickness for lenght. fake lashes dont hurt u at all unless used incorectly. sure there are the idiots who put them on wrong and discourage anyone to wear them but i must say: THEY ARE GREAT!!!(:
